Guitar Hero 2
The Guitar Hero II is the sequel to one of the most popular games in video game history. Guitar Hero II was released in November 2006 just a year after the original and fans lined up to buy it. The first gaming console to get the Guitar Hero II was the PlayStation 2 and in April 2006, Xbox 360 had come out with their game. The premise of the game remained the same but there were better features, venues and a better soundtrack.
The game is sold with the video game and the guitar shaped controller. The idea of the game is to play guitar like you are in a rock band. On screen, there are your other band members and you play the guitar along with the color coded notes on the screen. If you could keep up and play the majority of notes successfully then you can move to the next level and earn points.
On Guitar Hero II, there are 40 more popular songs added, though many of them are not the original songs but songs that have been re-recorded specifically for the game. The game was released with two options; the first was just the video game. These were for people who already owned Guitar Hero One and then there was the second option that included the game and the guitar.
Guitar Hero II has sold over 3 million copies and the numbers keep climbing. Without the success of Guitar Hero One, the sequels including Guitar Hero World Tour and Decades would not have followed. Due to the original’s success, guitar companies sought to advertise with in game products. Like the first game, the second has an in game store, where players can buy clothes and equipment as they earn money.
Guitar companies such as Gibson, Kramer, Krank, EMG and Epiphone lined up to have their products featured for some in game advertising. Though the game idea remains the same some mechanical features of the game were upgraded such as the hammer on and the pull off functions were upgraded. In addition, three new notes have been added. The player can score up to three times as many points if these notes are played accurately.
The game modes categories have remained the same. The Career Mode has some improved features as well. In the Guitar Hero II version, you can choose a band name and you can choose from 8 different in game guitarists plus three other members can be purchased that you can use later when the additional players are needed.
You must be the lead guitarist; only they are allowed to play in this game mode. You and your band will be playing at 8 different shows. Some of the venues names have been changed a bit and in this version you can see the band traveling from city to city and not just appearing at the next place.
When you first open the game, you will see a list of songs but not all of these songs will be played right from the start. The higher level that you play at the more points you will score, but you need to reach a certain amount of points in order to unlock the other songs.
The Cooperative and Face Off Game Modes are still available; you can play against your friends or with your friends to improve your scores separately or together. On the Face Off game play; players can choose their own level of difficulty. There is a Pro Face Off section; the scoring system in this mode is the same as if one player was playing the song. In order to get the points in this mode, you have to successfully complete the song.
Some of the featured songs on this version of Guitar Hero II are Surrender by Cheap Trick, John The Fisherman, Stop, and Possum Kingdom and Dead are featured. Guitar Hero II has won 9 awards for Best Soundtrack, PlayStation Game of the Year and Best Music Genre just to name a few. The sequel to the globally popular Guitar Hero was a success immediately and fans could not wait long enough to play the game. But it was worth the wait and then some.
