Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is the third installment in the Guitar Hero Video Game. Guitar Hero III was released on October 28, 2007 it first appeared on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2 soon followed. The game idea of Guitar Hero III is still the same but it does have some additions and some upgrades.
Some of the changes that appear in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock are the improved Career Mode and the more interactive model called Battle of the Bands. This version of the popular video game includes 70 songs in total; Guitar Hero II only had 40 songs. Plus all of these songs are master tracks unlike Guitar Hero II; the songs were re-recorded just for the game by cover bands. If you own the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 you will be allowed to download some additional songs to play.
What makes this version different than the others is that famous musicians appear in the game Legends of Rock. You will see Slash from Velvet Revolver and Tom Morello from AudioSlave just to name a few. With all of the great changes and add on’s the Guitar Hero III was named the Best Selling Video Game of 2007.
The way you play the game has not changed since the original Guitar Hero, the idea is to have the players of the game use their guitar shaped controllers play the notes on the screen. You have to stay in time with the notes as they roll down the screen. The game only provides a few seconds per note. You can tell how well you are doing by using your Rock Meter. As you play the notes, the Rock Meter will keep score of your accuracy and how much time you are spending on each note. If you are good enough to play constant string of 10 notes correctly, you will receive multiple points.
In the Career Mode, you will play through several tiers of songs. As you correctly play through each song it will unlock the next one. So, if you are having trouble playing through one song, you can’t switch to the next. You have to practice and play through the song in order to unlock the next one. As you unlock each tier and play successfully, you are invited to play the next tier and so forth.
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock introduces the Boss Battles in the Career Mode. At some point as you are playing through the Career Mode, you will have to play against Tom Morello, Slash and Lou The Devil. You must win in order to advance to the next tier. You will also earn money that you can use in the in game store to purchase clothes, finishes, and equipment.
The Co-Op Mode formerly the Cooperative Mode, has two players playing together to play a song to get more points. But in this version, one player is the lead and the other player can be the bass or rhythm guitar. In this mode there are 6 different tiers plus an encore song. There is just straight play here; there are no boss battles in the Co-Op Mode.
A new game play introduced by the Legends of Rock is called Battle Mode. In this section you can play against a player that is on the same gaming console or you can even play another player on another network. You must play the same song at different time to see who can get more points. It is a lot of fun and more players get to play as well.
The Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock introduces more characters, better songs and features guitar legends Slash and Tom Morello. The best part is that you can play these characters. In Legends of Rock, Brett Michaels appears as well does a look alike Anthony Kiedis but they are not playable people. But what other video game can offer these guitar greats?
The new soundtrack includes, Paint It, Black by the Rolling Stones, Sabotage by the Beastie Boys, My Names is Jonas by Weezer and Rock and Roll All Nite by Kiss. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock was made possible but the widely successful Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II. Each version is better than the next. Fans of the game wait with anticipation for the next great installment of their favorite video game.
